Wondering about the three months in between immersion weeks? Let us tell you how we fill in the gaps...
First, the benefits of immersion:
What is the best way to learn a language? To land yourself in a country that speaks that language. You are surrounded by what you want to learn, it is all around you. That concentration without distraction allows you to pick it up quickly.
Similarly, a teacher training immersion brings you that concentration with daily community practice without the conflicts and distractions of the outside world.
We keep this immersion just one week long so that you can get back to your life commitments.
Savasana: the benefits of space in between immersions:
There are 3 months in between each immersion week. We like to call that space savasana. It is time to step back into your life, reflect on what you've learned, take some classes, do homework, and begin to integrate what you soaked in and stirred up from the week-long immersion into your daily life.
But don't worry, we won't leave you fending for yourself to try and fill in the gaps. There is more going on during these months. Many of the following are "optional," some are strongly suggested, while others are required. As creators in your own life, it is up to you to take as little or as much of this as you can to get the experience you need.
You will have opportunities to teach a community class (optional, with the exception of the required practicum). Fellow trainees are strongly encouraged to come take the class and offer constructive feedback via our private FB page.
You will have opportunities to videotape yourself teaching a meditation (optional) and upload it onto a private FB page for your class to meditate with you as well as offer feedback. Video-taping may also happen at the studio.
We will offer monthly yogic cooking for our group to experience food in yogic lifestyle (strongly suggested).
We will open up the UYC space for group work and practice with FaceTime and Skype options for out-of-owners.
There will be opportunities to connect via video- or audio chat to go over homework and on-the-mat/off-the-mat questions.
There will be Sunday sadhana opportunities and opportunities to lead sadhana (after the 2nd immersion week).
Meet-n-Greets: we will ask you to do one hour structured one-on-one meet-ups (in person or via FaceTime, Skype, etc) to develop reach-out and support readiness.
You will have teacher support and accountability check in.
You will need this time to take the 20 required classes.
And please take advantage of seva opportunities at UYC by helping out at workshops, special events and classes, and continue to learn through participation and client services (optional).
If you are a busy person with multiple projects and endeavors, this format brings you back into your life with enough nuggets to chew on over the three months and enough space work your endeavors, integrating as you go.
A lot will be covered over one week's time. 3 months of savasana goes fast, and it is a sweet time to take in all the nuggets of information, insight and experiences from the immersion and integrate them into your life. It gives you ample time (but not as much as you think!) to learn to reach out and support each other as a spiritual community going through an amazing journey together. This sort of stepping-into-immerson, stepping-back, taking-savasana, then jumping-back-in (with master level teachers, community and teacher support, might we add!) is a rare opportunity to grow and prepare to be a teacher and leader in your own life.
DON'T RUSH THE EXPERIENCE.
When you heat food on high, you lose a ton of nutrients, and there is higher risk of burning. Slow cook and seal in the nutrients. These gaps allow you to marinate in the juices from the week-long immersions and serve up the right amount of space to make it yours.
