Kundalini Yoga, also known as the householders yoga and the Yoga of Awareness, is a yoga practice that cleanses our bodies and mind from years of accumulated stress and the dis-ease that comes from it. This practice opens up our energy centers, strengthens our nervous system, and unifies our mind-body system so that we become more in integrity with our Self. Kundalini Yoga has earned its nicknames by its practicality, speed and ease in which it transfers off the mat and brings awareness to the forefront and into our day.
Kundalini Yoga uses asana (movement), mantra (sound), pranayam (breath) and mudra (hand gestures), with emphasis on sound (chanting) meditation as a way to clear, seed and “recode” our mind to create a pathway to our next most radiant Self. Every exercise becomes a moving meditation. It offers us an opportunity to find calm amidst "chaos," preparing us for our day.
Kundalini Yoga Community Class (coming soon)
Community classes are taught predominantly by teachers-in-training and newly certified teachers as a way to sharpen their skills, and share the technology that has made a deep impact on their personal lives, offering a new, fresh perspective of this practice to our community. This class is Pay What you Want. The suggestion is for those who are financially able to pay the regular price of a class (or more!) so that classes may be extended on a sliding scale to those with hardships without compromising the studio's or the teachers' viability. But pay what you can: this exchange elevates the value of the service and self-esteem of the recipient, and therefore the benefit.

It begins with a 20 minute Meditation of the Soul called Japji, then goes into 20-40 minutes of yoga exercises followed by savasana and 62 minutes of mantra meditation. This practice helps you conquer time, space, and your personal blocks. With regular practice, it delivers your next most radiant Self. Globally, the Aquarian Sadhana can begin as early as 3:45 am and often at 4:30 am. This class is pay-what-you-want.
This format is very much like the Aquarian Sadhana (see above). We being with Japji, then yoga/ savasana. Instead of chanting the 7 mantras prescribed in the Aquarian Sadhana (some of which we might do from time to time), we practice other meditations, be they mantra or pranayama. Through this variety, it is our hope to demonstrate how one can customize their own practice. Morning Sadhana at UYC begins at 5:30 pm. This class is pay-what-you-want.
Using intuitive dance, drawing, meditations, and yoga, all practices in this 6 to 8 series course are chosen to stir up the subconscious/buried aspects of ourselves, and welcome them to the surface to be seen, felt, heard; welcomed, honored, and recognized as divinity, and synthesized with our souls. This course offers a brand new sense of integration, new ways to welcome darkness, challenges, and adversities of life as allies, and to ultimately synthesize the shadow self with the spirit.
Vibrate the Cosmos
This meditation series is an in-depth journey through the chakras. Students learn to activate, balance, and unblock the 8 major energy centers in this course. Each class features mantras, postures, guided reflections and weekly assignments to thoroughly experience each chakra. Students complete the course with a comprehensive understanding of the energy centers through group practice and individual assignments; Students will be led to wellness, prosperity, and wellness through the use of Sacred Sound.

Sacred Playground: Yoga & Meditation for Kids
Is UYC's unique program for kids. Our vision is to celebrate and seal their innate wisdom and offer tools that work with their natural ability to be fully present while they still have it so that they continue to have access to it as they get older... as well as to bring them back to their inner compass so that their points of reference come from within. Meditation (taught through breath, sound and movement) brings this wisdom into their bodies, to a more cellular, rather than academic, level. Our approach varies based on age and readiness. For children ages 4-7, this series focuses on storytelling (essential for inquiry, creativity and concentration), yoga movements that align with what they hear (word and body alignment), and meditation (total presence). For ages 8 to 11, this course teaches a child to listen to his or her inner voice and to start using Self as a point of reference rather than to the external world for approval. We blend some movement to encourage good posture, breath work and sound meditation to stimulate calm and to help recode the negative self talk, quiet the mind, and to direct it towards infinite potential. Vinyasa Yoga (not currently on the schedule)
As a Vinyasa class rooted deeply in the path of Ashtanga yoga (eight-limbs of yoga as mentioned in Yoga Sutra of Patanjali), this class will focus on moving through asanas with pranayama to achieve clarity of mind and promote internal cleansing. Students will be guided through Asanas (postures & bandhas), Ujjayi Pranayama (yogic breath) and Drishti (gazing point) which are the 3 places of attention and action known as Tristhana in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.
This style of yoga actively draws the senses inward allowing practitioners to move through the practice with complete awareness and steadiness of the body and mind transforming the physical practice into a moving meditation. Students will learn proper alignment and modifications of each pose and how to safely develop a foundation of core strength, stamina and confidence to maintain a regular practice.
Yin Yoga (not currently on the schedule)
Experience what yoga was like thousands of years ago-- the name is newly coined but the practice is ancient. The poses are all seated on the ground and held from 3-10 minutes with a focus on stillness and meditation. This style works the connective tissue, providing lasting structural change in your body.
Restorative Vinyasa Flow (not currently on the schedule)
In addition to stretching and strengthening the physical body, students are encouraged to turn inwards and realize their personal gifts. By incorporating breath mindfulness, graceful movements and postures, meditation, and deep restorative relaxation, they will find within themselves a calm mind, coordinated body, relaxed breath, and bliss within their soul.
iRest® Yoga Nidra (not currently on the schedule)
iRest® Yoga Nidra is a form of meditation developed by Richard Miller, PhD. This practice merges the ancient tradition of Yoga Nidra meditation, translated as "Sleep of the Yogi," with the psychological framework of the Western mind. This trauma-informed practice will usher you through 8 koshas (sheaths or layers) of awareness, presented one step at a time, in order to develop a safe and intentional familiarity with your internal landscape. iRest® nourishes qualities of joy, inner resource for aid in exploring difficulty, empathy, peacefulness, deep relaxation, forgiveness and helps to foster a relationship to your heart's desire in life.
