Healing Through Breath, Sound & Movement

Healing through breath, sound & movement
When it comes to wellness, do you take a more reactive approach, or a proactive one?

What is your first line of defense? Do you wait until you are sick to see a doctor, take your medicine, and go back to life as usual? or do you pay regular attention to how your lifestyle choices impact your short- and long-term health and well being?

The latter, in theory sounds like the way to go, but many feel a bit overwhelmed by information overload and a general fear of taking on individual responsibility for one’s health and sense of well being.

But what if you only had to tweek what you already do on the daily?

These 3 activities are foundational to good health, and when engaged at a conscious level, they activate our natural healing powers. The best part: they nourish us and add to our sense of wellness, and they costs us nothing.

  • breath,
  • sound
  • and, yep, movement.
We are already involved in all three, every one of us, and we don’t even need to remember to put them in our pockets because we carry them around with us internally and can pull them out at any time. It is now a matter of knowing how to use them to make them work for us.

When activated, they can be one of our best lines of defense.
They also happen to come with some awesome side effects*.

Done purposefully, they help to soothe and condition the nervous system (which is the system that governs our response-ability), they can slow down our minds and heart rate, increase metabolism and proper functioning of our glandular system (which affects sleep & mood!), and they promote calm, stillness and insight. They also help to elevate positive self talk and self governance. We can all use some of that!

This is why yoga and meditation can be so awesome. Kundalini Yoga uses all three almost equally. It costs you a little bit of time- more mental than anything else- to learn to incorporate these three tools into your daily. The return, however, is less time allocated on mis-aligned projects and self-sabatoge. So in the end, it doesn’t actually even out. Instead, it tips heavily in your favor.

Put some time and investment in group classes and events, and that forward motion goes into turbo-charge with the added, and fulfilling, benefit of being a part of a community that supports your efforts and desire to step into your next most radiant and healthful Self.

Sat Nam.

* gratitude is a big one.

P.S.: on breath, see Suspension of Breath Series. On sound, join us for Mantra Meditation. On movement, take a Kundalini Yoga Class. These are practices that, in time, seep off the mat and into your world.

    Kundalini Yoga Quotes:

“I’d never felt anything like it; it was just an opening of energy and a feeling of such liberation.” -Marika Bethel, owner, Glowing House

“Within the first ten minutes, I thought, ‘[kundalini yoga] is the best thing that’s ever happened to me,’” -Gabrielle Bernstein

"Kundalini Yoga is the crack cocaine of yoga; if Hatha is a mild weed high, Iyengar is a deep hash glow and Ashtanga is amphetamine, Kundalini Yoga blows the F*@&ing doors off." -Russell Brand
